Ayoze Perez goal sees Newcastle to victory at Tottenham

Ayoze Perez beat Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris at his near post as the full-time whistle loomed after fellow substitute Aleksandar Mitrovic had canceled out Eric Dier’s first-half headed opener for Tottenham.

Fans arrive outside White Hart Lane before the Premier League game between Tottenham and Newcastle United. “I respect his opinion and I believe that we have a very strong squad and very good players”, Pochettino said.

We’ll have team news and build-up from 3pm, with the match kicking-off an hour later.

Mitrovic had been on the pitch less than two minutes before that strike, and was a pivotal part of a Newcastle side which darted forward enterprisingly after their equaliser, testing Spurs and looking for their second shock win in as many games – and finding their way through in dramatic style in the 93rd minute when Perez slammed home past Lloris for a famous victory.

“This defeat does not change my feeling – I am happy with the squad”, he said to BBC. We made mistakes and we feel very disappointed now because we did not deserve to lose.

“The game was under control”.

Newcastle conceded 18 goals and only scored three in the process of their baron run, and they may be underdogs for this one, but there is room for optimism if they can replicate last Sunday’s display. In football it is impossible sometimes to explain why. “Constant messages, the right things, the right messages and hope you get that performance and that luck on game day”. It is not about physical condition. “You know at Newcastle you are only two days away from another crisis… we have not turned a corner”.

The coach told Sky Sports that a lack of desire cost Spurs against a resurgent Newcastle in the second half, saying: “The first half was fantastic… one of the best games that we have shown but in the second half, yes maybe there was a lack of competitiveness and we gave them an opportunity to score”.

“A dream season? We can’t start using phrases like that because there is still half the season to go”.
