Azerbaijan won’t allow establishment of another Armenian state in its territory

It said two bodies were recovered during a search along the contact line between Azerbaijan and the separatist Nagorny Karabakh region, hiking the overall toll from the clashes to at least 92.

The clashes lasted several days and left more than 70 soldiers and civilians dead before a cease-fire was reached in Moscow on Tuesday.

Armenia-backed separatists seized the mainly Armenian-populated region from Azerbaijan during a war in the early 1990s that killed some 30,000 people.

Russian Federation is also the main seller of weapons to both Armenia, a close Moscow ally, and Azerbaijan, which has developed warm relations with ethnically kin Turkey. “The negotiations have brought no results, but we are still prepared for the negotiating process”, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.

Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan said he is willing to consider the deployment of peacekeepers to Nagorno-Karabakh, but Azeris fear that would only strengthen the status quo and entrench ethnic-Armenian control of the region.

Azeri and Nagorno-Karabakh officials agreed to a full five-hour cessation of hostilities on Friday to allow each side to retrieve those who fell in battle.

Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan decried on Saturday Russia’s continued arms supplies to Azerbaijan.

Medvedev added that there were a lot of meetings in the previous periods, followed by meetings with participation of Russian President Putin, minister Lavrov and others. “Certainly, this can not but alarm us”, he said.

Also on Friday, Azerbaijani Foreign ministry spokesman Khikmat Hajiyev told media here on Friday that Azerbaijan will hold talks on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict’s settlement only with Armenia.

The German Seven-Point Plan wants to curb the potential for violence and show the way towards a lasting, peaceful solution to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, according to the statement. When this issue is resolved, then we will not talk about a truce, but fully-fledged peace and cooperation between the states. Azerbaijan demands respect for its territorial integrity.
