B1G Week 8 bowl projections: Nebraska in danger of missing postseason

Northwestern’s defense held Nebraska’s rushing offense in check throughout the game, allowing only 82 yards on 38 attempts. The Cornhuskers are trying to build on theirs. The Wildcats are trying to get theirs back.

“Football is a insane game”, said junior wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp. We can talk about injuries and youth, but when the team was healthy early on they were still bad and it’s up in the air if their young players were actually improving or if their increase in production was the end result of increased playing time and usage (thanks to a mass amount of injuries slowing down the teams star players). Maliek Collins and the Husker defensive front are giving up just 3.2 yards per carry and have yet to allow more than 147 yards. We mentioned last week how Nebraska’s victory at Minnesota was important for getting the Cornhuskers back into the postseason picture.

Lowry set the NU record for tackles for loss with 6 (for a loss of 29 yards), sixth most in a game in Big Ten history. Defensively, man we played a ton of good defense. The ‘Cats have not played in a bowl game since 2012, when they went 10-3 and defeated Mississippi State 34-20 in the Gator Bowl.

“The stats show we’re not very good in October”. “That’s the hard part of the season”.

Lots of lead changes, dropped catches (including a couple likely touchdowns) and otherwise big plays that never came to fruition.

The loss spoiled an afternoon when Tom Osborne and the 1995 national championship team were honored in a pregame ceremony.

After Nebraska scored a field goal, Northwestern quickly earned a touchdown by going 77 yards in just two and a half minutes, finishing with a 37-yard touchdown pass from Thorson to Dan Vitale.

Riley said the pressure to attain bowl eligibility at a place like Nebraska is always in the back of his mind. There was just a silent malaise that echoed across the stadium and was transmitted across the country. The fans are great, they’re passionate. The Huskers have now lost three of their last four games this season, four of their last six home games and three straight home conference games. However, rushing yards was a huge difference among the games.

The Huskers will play a Purdue team they’ve outscored 79-21 in the last two meetings. In 2011, backup QB Kain Colter led the Wildcats – 17-point underdogs – to a 28-25 win over the ninth-ranked Huskers.

ALL-BLACK UNIFORMS: Nebraska will keep the scarlet and cream in the locker room and wear all-black uniforms. The numbers are red, as is the oversized “N” that’s integrated into the pant stripe to match the logo on the black matte shell helmet. Nebraska will wear alternate Husker Bold uniforms for Saturday’s game.
