BA refused to beam up Salmond in Star Trek guise

Scottish National Party MP Alex Salmond was blocked form boarding a flight after he booked a ticket using Star Trek character Captain Kirk as his name.

Alex Salmond was trying to travel out of Heathrow when he was initially denied entry to his flight because the fake name didn’t match his real name on his passport.

The former SNP leader told the Mail on Sunday that he often travelled under a false name for security reasons and he liked to use Captain Kirk’s name as he is an avid Star Trek fan.

He said: “It was all sorted out”.

It was only after a few phone calls and quite a bit of explaining that BA finally relented and let him on board.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday about the incident, Salmond seemed to find the whole thing pretty amusing. I just wanted BA to “Beam me up, Scotty”.

Mr Salmond previously had bodyguards to back up his story but no longer uses them after he resigned from his post as First Minister after last year’s failed Scottish independence referendum.

The 60-year-old is a member of the official Star Trek fan club and was awarded an honorary “Starfleet Officer” position and a “Membership of Distinction” – the first politician in the world to be honoured in this way.

Only a series of frantic calls by the politician persuaded the airline that Mr Salmond was not a deranged impostor and could be allowed on board.
