Sexually active adults who travel in areas with Zika should use condoms to avoid passing the virus during sex, and couples planning pregnancy should consult with a doctor.

As of Friday, 114 travel-associated Zika virus infections have been reported in California since 2015, according to the state’s Department of Public Health.
Miami-Dade County has 104 Zika cases out of 408 statewide including 55 pregnant women. Zika can cause serious birth defects, according to the CDC.
“They have been testing one thousand mosquitoes a day.and they have not found a single one that is contaminated”, said Mayor Tomas Regalado.
Likewise, the department says 52 individuals from the community have been tested – six tested positive but did not show symptoms.
The department would not comment on whether any of New Jersey’s cases involved pregnant women.
Researchers are still learning about the relatively new virus, he said, but literature suggests it could have a more profound impact on the neurological system, not only in developing fetuses, but in babies, children and adults.
The non-native Aedes aegypti or yellow fever mosquito is now present in 12 California counties, including San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
Zika virus is a type of flavivirus that is primarily transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito.
It’s also important to note, West Nile virus remains a concern but the two types of mosquitos that carry Zika virus have not been found in our area.
Aerial spraying is scheduled to continue every seven days for the next four weeks. There is now no vaccine or treatment for Zika other than supportive care, rest, fluids and fever relief. They say pregnant women who must travel to these areas should prevent mosquito bites and consult a health care provider when they return.
