BabyCenter reports spike in Pokemon Go inspired baby names
A study has noted that there has been a significant surge in the name trends relating to Pokemon.

The number of newborns named after Pokémon is on the rise in the U.S. following the worldwide Pokémon Go phenomenon.
While Pikachu and Jigglypuff may be the most recognizable names in the Pokemon universe, the most popular Pokemon name in the real world is now Roselia.
Data compiled by BabyCenter shows Roselia as one of the top names (up 5,859 spots compared to last year), followed by Onyx (up 2,184 spots) and Eevee (up 1,377 spots). Onyx was all but unheard of for a century, then got off the ground in the “90s around the time Pokemon was first introduced before spiking very recently”. But now it appears that Pokemon baby names are becoming a thing, and that, I’m pretty sure, is a sign that maybe things are getting a little out of hand.
BabyCenter speculates that other names like Star (up 2,040) and Ivy (up 1,287) could be inspired by their Pokemon counterparts: Starmie and Ivysaur. And for boys, Ash – aka, the Pokemon trainer and protagonist of the anime and manga series – has also seen a popularity surge, rising 248 points, according to Buzzfeed.

Pokemon definitely won’t be disappearing anytime soon, now that it’s become a latest trend in baby names.
