Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg winced after throwing a pitch and was forced to leave in the third inning of his first start back from the disabled list, and NL East-leading Washington went on to defeat Atlanta 5-4 in 11 innings Wednesday night.

Hours after he was activated from the disabled list, Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg left in the third inning of Wednesday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves. The Nationals stressed at the time that placing Strasburg on the disabled list was a precautionary move.
Turner would get his revenge later in the game with a two-run single to expand the Nationals lead to 9-6 in the eighth inning. Nationals trainer Paul Lessard and pitching coach Mike Maddux went to the mound to talk to Strasburg.
Baker said Strasburg felt a pinch in the back of his elbow and will undergo an MRI to examine the extent of the injury. He walked into the dugout with his glove over the bottom half of his face.
“He did everything that was asked of him (before the start)”, Baker said.
Strasburg threw 42 pitches before leaving the game. The right-hander left after 2 1/3 innings, allowing a run on two hits.
MLB Statcast reported that Swanson dashed around the bases in 14.97 seconds, which is the fastest anyone has touched them all in the 2016 season. “He’s doing those one of one battles and winning majority”. Strasburg has not pitched since August 17 because of right elbow soreness. In his first 17 starts, he was 13-0 with a 2.51 ERA.
Trea Turner then hit a two-run single for Washington, which beat Atlanta for the 13th time in 15 meetings this season.
Swanson, the 2015 overall No. 1 draft pick, hit an inside-the-park home run in the second inning. Foltynewicz earned a victory in his only previous start this year against Washington, allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings on August 12. Difo hit.257 with five RBIs in 35 at-bats in earlier stints with the Nationals, while Giolito is 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA in four starts in the majors.
Murphy’s two-run single in the seventh tied the score at 3 and gave him 100 RBIs for the season.

The start of the game was delayed 57 minutes, though it ultimately only rained lightly during the early portion of the game.
