Backing for MP Corbyn in Labour leadership contest

With no reliable polling data on how the Labour contest will pan out, this may all be a little premature and could end up poisoning relationships within the party as the old left and new left wings tear stripes off each other in public.

The Labour leadership contender said the question was “unbelievable” as she questioned whether a male politician would be asked about their weight.

Aides to frontrunner Mr Burnham said he could not “envisage any circumstances” where Mr Corbyn would be on his frontbench, insisting the shadow health secretary was joking when he told a BBC debate he “might be open to listening”.

“Pretending to share Jeremy’s politics is not a strategy for Labour winning in 2020”, said Toby Perkins, the MP for Chesterfield who is heading Kendall’s campaign.

The Islington MP had been a 100/1 outsider when he entered the race but a rally of support has put him well in contention.

JEREMY CORBYN steamed further ahead of his three rivals in the race for leadership with the number Constituency Labour Party yesterday.

When Kendall – who is considered the most rightwing of the candidates – was asked during Sunday’s hustings if she would have Corbyn in her shadow cabinet, she said: “I haven’t made any decisions about that yet, but I don’t think Jeremy’s and my politics is anything like the same”. Reports at the weekend suggested Labour MPs were already considering how he could be removed from office if he pulled off a victory. “I think the Labour party has got to come back together after this leadership contest”.

HUNDREDS of Labour party members will meet in Brighton this weekend to discuss their future.

It comes as Labour divisions on welfare look set to be exposed today during a Commons vote on Tory plans to cut the country’s enormous benefits bill.

“Suffice to say that the brand of Labour has been damaged massively by these voters’ inability to perceive [Ed Miliband] as a capable and competent prime minister”.
