Wisconsin forced four turnovers and held Michigan State to 75 yards rushing in Saturday’s 30-6 win over the Spartans. However, given that it is so early in the season, comparing resumes is not a great argument.

The Badgers played better than Michigan State and better than just nearly anyone not wearing official issue, red-and-white Under Armour gear thought they could. That’s not to say the performance has been entirely surprising.
The Spartans had four turnovers in the game and that was a big difference maker. Wisconsin would eventually put away the Buckeyes, knocking them out 25-17 to secure the match. There was plenty of concern about the Wisconsin defense after coordinator Dave Aranda left to take the same job at LSU, but through four games under Justin Wilcox, there hasn’t been a drop off.
“Like Kelly said, Maryland is a team that fights really hard and they’re a team that will have that happen and then turn up their game and go even harder”. The Spartans sacked Hornibrook twice for 11 yards. Michigan State has a 30-23 advantage in the series. With left guard Jon Dietzen out, redshirt sophomore center Michael Deiter slid there and Brett Connors made his first career start at center. “I don’t care about how many yards I put up, how many touchdowns I had”.
MSU moved well into Wisconsin territory near the end of the half before the 16-play, 62-yard drive sputtered. Freshman Alex Hornibrook took over and impressed against the Spartans’ rugged defense today.
Tight end O.J. Howard caught three passes 60 yards and was found by No. 2 quarterback Blake Barnett for a touchdown. Despite the mediocre stat line, Hornibrook showed confidence in the pocket and made throws that Houston can not make. The Badgers responded with a 5-0 run, but UMD stayed close behind and re-tied the game at 15 after winning a long rally. Starting running back Corey Clement has struggled thus far.
Jalen Hurts completed 16 of 24 passes for 164 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Mack Wilson, while running for another 54 yards and a score for the Crimson Tide, who used three quarterbacks in the game.
Harris was hardly needed in this game, when No. 2 quarterback Blake Barnett played much of the way and the emerging freshman Jacobs ran for 97 yards.
At this point it is too early to dethrone Ohio State or MI as being the best team in the Big Ten. When Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez resurrected the Badgers program from the dead in 1990, he said, “Our hearts and minds will come from Wisconsin, but our hands and feet better come from somewhere else”. The defense is likely the best in the Big Ten.
Wisconsin can’t keep doing this. From there, the offense and special teams fell apart around them. That was the Aggies’ third quality win of the year to go with their upset over UCLA in Week 1 and a victory over a competitive Auburn team last weekend.
