Bahamas-bound cruise ship battered by hurricane-force winter winds sparks investigation
Another climate watcher, Southeast Regional Climate Center climatologist Jordan McLeod, suggested that, at the very least, Royal Caribbean is guilty of poor weather analysis.

Royal Caribbean, along with the ship’s captain Claus Anderson, said that the storm was worse than it had predicted before setting out.
Melke said passengers were told, “the arrival time for Bayonne is still a little bit undecided” and that the cruise line is still “discussing with the local authorities”.
“I have to admit my husband said why don’t we look in December and see what’s out there and I said I’ll look but I’m not sure I’m ready for another cruise right now”.
In a statement issued shortly before the ship returned to dock, Royal Caribbean issued a statement in which apologized to passengers while noting that they “have to do better”.
The ship’s captain announced to travelers that the storm’s strength was unexpected, according to USA Today.
On Sunday those aboard the 1,110-foot liner were forced to stay in their rooms as the ship tilted at 45 degrees for four hours, passenger Justin Scerbo told CNN while arriving back on solid ground.
Four passengers were injured during the storm, though none seriously.
They were taping the merchandise in the ship’s store onto the shelves because it was flying out. “Airlines take exceptional care to route traffic around areas of turbulence or rough air to avoid preventable injuries or damage to the aircraft”.
“Why in the world is a ship going anywhere close to where the hurricane could be?”
“Who’s sleeping?” said an incredulous Kim Robinette, describing the tumult inside her family’s sleeping quarters as they rode out the storm. Nelson said from the Senate floor Monday.
Government weather watchers had raised the possibility of a large storm in the Atlantic as early as Friday. “Numerous gale, storm and hurricane-force wind warnings had been issued in advance of this developing storm by the National Weather Service”. At 1 p.m., after speaking on the phone with the Miami office, Andersen walked onto the bridge as the winds started to pick up.
The severity of Sunday’s storm, with its sustained 120-mph winds, far exceeded forecasts. “In eight or nine hours it goes from being nothing to a full-blown storm”.
Tarra Grammenos was working as a sign language interpreter on the Anthem of the Seas, a almost quarter-mile long cruise ship launched a year ago.
“There’s people in line to book and I’m like good for you”, Brown said.
“We are both Italian and we have relatives in Italy, and we’ll be actually able to visit relatives we’ve never met”, said Burkovitch.
“The storm had characteristics of a classic nor’easter”, AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Kottlowski said.
But Driscoll doesn’t expect the fallout to be huge.

“No winter season is without a cruise ship nightmare story, and 2016 is no exception”, he said. For our deck-by-deck tour of the vessel’s interior areas and cabins, scroll through the carousels below.
