Should it develop enough to earn a name, it will be called Hermine, the eighth named storm of the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Whether 99L organizes or not, the National Hurricane Center cautions that its heavy rains and strong winds will still cause problems as it moves west.
Continue to watch this through the weekend and have preparations completed should a storm move our way. The Hurricane Center gave the weak disturbance a 10 percent chance of becoming a tropical system before it reaches southeast Texas by Sunday.
Rivers surged across a large section of the Dominican Republic on Thursday as a broad area of low pressure headed east to the Turks and Caicos Islands and the Bahamas, officials said.
“If it does get into the Gulf, then conditions could be a little more favorable for development late this weekend and early next week”, WWL-TV meteorologist Dave Nussbaum said in a blog post today.
Forecasters said Gaston will become a hurricane again by Friday or Saturday, but it is not forecast to impact the continental U.S.
Meanwhile, at 11 p.m., Gaston remained a tropical storm with 65 miles per hour winds after losing the brief hurricane status it had gained overnight. However, all are expected to be less of a factor by Friday, giving the system a chance to strengthen.
Meanwhile in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Lester formed far off Mexico’s coast. Rain chances are rather low, but not zero, and the chance of any one spot seeing a shower or storm each day is about one in five.
The storm is located about 1,065 miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands.
Hurricane season ends on 30 November.
Gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall were forecast to spread into parts of southern Florida and the Florida Keys over the weekend, the National Hurricane Center reported.

“How risky conditions become in terms of storm surge and winds will depend on how quickly the system can gain strength”.
