Neighbor Jill Dombroske said the Gordons were longtime residents of the quiet neighborhood where large homes sit on expansive hillside properties and many people own horses.
Robby Gordon, 47, is a former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver and owner.
He said he talked to Robby Gordon briefly Thursday after learning the news.
The deaths of the father and stepmother of former NASCAR driver Robby Gordon were being investigated as a possible murder-suicide after the married couple was found dead inside a home in Orange, authorities announced Thursday.
“Robby mentioned his dad gave me my first ride and that he was always so proud of me, was a big fan and bragged about me”, Johnson said Thursday at the NASCAR Chase Media Day in Chicago. “I learned everything about motorsports out in this tiny little barn over here”. Yet, no further details about the incident on what the motive or what triggered the father of the former auto racing star, to commit the heinous crime, have been released.
“The truth will come out”, Robby said in a statement, according to the Register.
Robert Gordon was Robby Gordon’s father and Sharon Gordon his stepmother.
The elder Gordon had three daughters, one of whom, Beccy, is the wife of 2014 Indianapolis 500 victor Ryan Hunter-Reay.
Known in racing circles as “Baja Bob”, the elder Gordon was a five-time victor of the grueling off-road competitions in the desert peninsula south of the USA border.
“He taught me at a young age that 1 horsepower wasn’t going to be enough”, Gordon said. “And I was fortunate enough to do something different”.
Robby Gordon, 47, now races in an off-road series he created in 2013 called Speed Energy Formula Off-Road, following the path of his father.
“With respect to him and in his honour, both my [off-road racing] event in Costa Mesa will go on and Ryan Hunter-Reay, who is Becky’s husband, will continue on at Sonoma [IndyCar Series] this weekend. He has his truck and he delivers personally”, Saunders said. “I’m so sad and I can’t believe it”. “To kind of wrap your head around this tragedy is very hard to do”.

There were expressions of shock and sorrow from the NASCAR community, including Dale Earnhardt Jr., fiancee Amy Riemann and others connected with the Gordons. Officers located a rifle inside the home, Lopez said.
