Baker Mayfield exits with head injury

After that pass, TCU went on a scoring drought that lasted into the third quarter when Aaron Green responded with a shifty 26-yard touchdown thanks to Oklahoma turning the ball over on downs.

What the loss mans for TCU: The Horned Frogs put together a valiant effort just to be in the game, much less have a chance to win it at the end. It’s probably my most memorable moment in my football career.

Let’s start with the obvious: Gary Patterson was absolutely wrong to go for two at the end of the game.

Samaje Perine, in his first carry since his injury forced him off the field, raced 72 yards for a touchdown to give the Sooners a 30-13 lead with 7:55 left in the third quarter.

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield left the Sooners’ game against TCU with a head injury after halftime and will not return. Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Mayfield will be evaluated by medical staff before any decisions are made. I sure don’t know anything right now. “When you can not be at your best and win, it’s always a positive against a ranked team”. In addition to missing QB Trevone Boykin and WR Josh Doctson, the Horned Frogs were without C Joey Hunt, who was injured in practice during the week.

That would be all for the Frogs’ offense in the half, as the Sooners stormed back to score 23 unanswered points. The two combined for 229 yards, three touchdowns and as many picks through the air, but Kohlhausen was a huge spark plug in the fourth quarter. On the very next play, Mayfield threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Dede Westbrook.

“That’s what we do, we fight back, no matter who’s on the field”, Green said. That’s what we’ve been taught to do.

Those penalties haven’t come back to bite the Sooners just yet, but the stakes are raised with each game from here on out.

The Sooners are making people forget their loss to Texas, although the result of next week’s Bedlam showdown with Oklahoma State in Stillwater could depend on the health of Mayfield, who had played himself into Heisman contention.

In the first quarter Mayfield suffered a jarring helmet-to-helmet hit from TCU linebacker Ty Summers.

“That’ll all be up to our doctors and trainers”, Stoops said after the game. At halftime, the Sooners elected to go with Trevor Knight after Mayfield admitted he was having headaches. The offense had to lean heavily on tailbacks Perine and Joe Mixon, but both of them got hurt in the second half. Knight was 5 for 16 for 76 yards and an interception.TCU also changed quarterbacks during the game, with senior Kohlhausen replacing redshirt freshman Foster Sawyer early in the second half after Sawyer’s third interception of the game early in the third quarter.Kohlhausen gave the Horned Frogs a boost, throwing for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

Player of the Game: Baylor WR KD Cannon caught five passes for 210 yards and two scores. Unable to put any weight on his left foot, he came out for several minutes, but returned during Oklahoma’s next possession.

“He had a slight ankle sprain”, Stoops said.
