Bale adamant Wales’ fortunes do not hinge on him

Chris Coleman may be taking charge at his first major tournament, but the Wales boss seems to have learnt quickly that cameras will be following his every move during his time at Euro 2016.

GARETH Bale insists Wales are no one-man team as the country’s star player prepares for a Euro 2016 opener against Slovakia this weekend.

‘No, it’s never a one-man team, ‘ he said. I would stick with the 4-4-2 Diamond system we are playing with only 1 recognized winger in the squad (Raheem Sterling) and many strong centre midfielders. “I’m not giving anything away to say we can’t start with all three”.

“We all work hard as one unit – we attack as one and we defend as one”.

“I know the medical staff have been working hard as well, they have done an wonderful job and hopefully he can be a big part of what we are looking forward to”. “I would probably have to say Ryan Giggs”, he answered. This group has not only the talent, but also the right mentality to play top-level global football.

And Real Madrid forward Bale is itching to get started, saying: “We’re all looking forward to it”. “The whole nation’s looking forward to it and the support we’ve had from everybody here and back home in Wales has been vast”. We are all friends and we joke around and play together but when it comes down to serious business we fight for each other’.

“I just want to go out and play football and enjoy myself”.

“Joe has been on the pitch, doing everything the rest of the players are doing”, said Wales manager Chris Coleman at their Brittany training base. It has been a long time since then, and there has been a big psychological barrier, with the pressure on every time there was a tournament we failed to reach, even when we had a good squad, like the one we have now. Scouting all the Wales vs. Slovakia predictions out there, deducing one definite victor among them is really hard.

Chris Coleman’s team kick off their European Championship campaign in Group B against Slovakia on Saturday before facing England and Russian Federation.

“We have achieved that but we do not want to come here and make up the numbers”.

“Without doing any disrespect to the friendlies, we won the games when it mattered, and hopefully that will be the case at the end of the tournament”.

“Scotland went to the 1978 World Cup in Argentina at Wales” expense, helped by a dubious penalty involving Joe Jordan’s hand in a key qualifier.

I think both teams will set themselves up not to lose here and defence may be king in the opening Group B games.
