August 30: While provincial governments in Pakistan sought additional investments in their respective regions through the United States dollars 46-billion flagship China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Sanaullah Zehri was conspicuously absent from a CPEC Summit held in Islamabad recently.
However, Pakistan government has not revealed the terms and conditions of the 46 billion dollars envisaged as Chinese investment under the CPEC and reports indicate that Pakistan has extended sovereign guarantees to Chinese investors even though such guarantees are universally not extended to private sector investors. “These costs appeared not only in the form of remarkable human and material resources but also in the willingness of the soldiers to sideline with civilians and to scrutinize the latest achievements in democratic transitions for the sake of CPEC implementation”, Pakistani army chief Raheel Sharif recently said. Located in the coastal area of southeastern suburbs of Karachi, Qasim Port coal-fired power plant is the first-started energy project under the framework of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Nawaz said Pakistan and China will jointly send satellite in 2018. The summit aims at enhancing awareness on business opportunities under the CPEC, attracting local and foreign investment and employment opportunities.
“My personal view is that if India is adamant and if Indian factor is found by China or Pakistan in disrupting the process of CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor), if that becomes a reality, it will really become a disturbance to China-India relations, India-Pakistan relations”, South Asia expert Hu Shisheng said on Sunday. “China is willing to work alongside Pakistan to ensure the smooth running of the corridor”, she said.
The prime minister said that they are working on master plan with China to transform Gwadar into modern small port city of 21 century.
Time has come to a new history of vision by bringing peace and prosperity and opportunities for emanating poverty unemployment.
Addressing the audience at the jam-packed hall of the China-Pakistan Friendship Center, Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong said China-Pakistan relations have now entered into a new phase of development, the phase with a lot of opportunities and that the CPEC is a project of livelihood, which has already created tens of thousands of job opportunities for Pakistani people.
“I think the market has a big potential here, so it’s good for our exploration and for all the Chinese companies”, Xu Ang with China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau said.
“After the completion of this mega project, Pakistan is expecting approximately $150 billion worth of investment by different foreign firms, particularly by the Chinese”, Ismail said.
