Baltimore police probe transport van sign

Baltimore police are investigating a sign posted inside a department van that reads, “Enjoy your ride, cuz we sure will!”

“This sign is yet more proof that the Baltimore City Police Department is in need of serious investigation, oversight and reform”, Murphy wrote in a statement to The Baltimore Sunday.

Prosecutors say Gray suffered a critical neck injury in April after being handcuffed and shackled in the back of a Baltimore police transport van that made several stops.

The sign, on the inside of the van door, would be visible to anyone detained by the police and placed inside the van. “We have recently become aware of the wording and have begun an internal investigation”. No one is able to confirm how long the sign had been in the back of the van. But it’s clearly meant for those who are riding inside the van. The news station said Baltimore Police officials have confirmed the authenticity of the photos and have launched an internal investigation and condemned the sign.

The photos are circulating amid simmering tensions over the death of Freddie Gray in police custody, which set off protests and riots in Baltimore this year. An autopsy report leaked to the Baltimore Sun said that Gray died of a high-impact injury as a result of not being secured properly during transport.

The report said Gray’s death could not be ruled an accident and is instead a homicide because officers didn’t follow safety procedures ‘through acts of omission.’. They have pleaded not guilty.
