Ban Ki-Moon Ducks Out J&K Dispute in his UNGA Speech
Even if India-Pakistan relations had not crashed to a new all-time low after last Sunday’s attack by Pakistani terrorists on an Indian Army camp at Uri, resulting in the death of 18 Indian soldiers, and had the Army-ISI-Jihadi complex in Rawalpindi desisted from cross-border terrorism, Nawaz Sharif would have repeated the same hackneyed lines at the annual gathering in NY.

In his communication with the Pak official, Jaishankar said that from the recent incidents India has recovered a number of items like Global Positioning System from the bodies that indicate the point and time of infiltration and the subsequent route to terror attack site, grenades with Pak markings, communications matrix sheets, communication equipment and other material made in Pakistan.
Kashmir has been divided between India and Pakistan since the end of British rule in 1947.
“The Secretary-General stressed the need for Pakistan and India to address their outstanding issues, including Kashmir, through dialogue in the interest of both countries and the region as a whole”, according to a brief statement by Ban’s spokesperson.
Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani (22) was killed by the Indian security forces in an encounter on July 8.
The Prime Minister showed to UN Secretary General the pictures of innocent and defenceless people of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir who have been victimized through brutal use of force and atrocities at the state level.
He also shed light on the atrocities committed by Indian forces in India-held Kashmir (IHK) and urged the worldwide community to act.
Gambhir also brought up the recent attack in Uri and the fact that the Pakistani high commissioner to India was summoned to demand that Pakistan abide by its commitment to not allow “its soil or territory under its control to be used for terrorism against India”.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan has been the principle victim of terrorism and the country has lost thousands of civilians and security officials in terrorism related incidents. “They are essential to resolve our differences, especially the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, and to avert the danger of any escalation”.
In a reference to JeM chief Masood Azhar and Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, Gambhir said terrorist entities and their leaders, including many designated by the United Nations, continue to roam the streets of Pakistan freely and operate with State’s support.
But we can not ignore our neighbor’s unprecedented arms build up and will take whatever measures are necessary to maintain credible deterrence.
Ban met with Sharif here on Wednesday on the margins of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly. “We condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations”, the PM said, adding that Pakistan was successfully carrying out Operation Zarb e Azab against terrorism.
“Our culture, tradition and economy complement each other, and Pakistan is seeking to increase the level of its cooperation with Tehran”, said Sharif.
Speaking to reporters shortly after Sharif’s speech, Akbar said: “It was shocking that the leader of a nation can glorify a self-declared, self-advertised terrorist at such a forum”. Perhaps renunciation of lies and self-restraint on threats could be a good place for Pakistan to start.

She also referred to the latest attacks on the Uri army base, at India-administered Kashmir’s border with Pakistan.
