Bangladesh: 6 sentenced to death in torture deaths of 2 boys

In Sylhet, Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha sentenced four men for killing 13-year-old Samiul Alam Rajon, a vegetable vendor. The gang had accused him of stealing a rickshaw.
The subsequent autopsy report said Rajon died of brain hemorrhage though the doctors found 64 injury marks in his body while the evidence suggested the boy was tortured for almost four hours until he breathed his last.
Of the suspects sentenced on Sunday, four were sentenced to death, seven were sentenced to seven years in jail and two were set free.
Beyond the four convicts, one was sentenced to life imprisonment and four were sentenced to different terms while three were acquitted out of 13 indicted accused.
There had been a popular demand for death penalty right from the day the court began trial of the attackers including prime suspect Kamrul Islam, who fled to Saudi Arabia after the incident, but later was taken into the custody of the Bangladesh embassy with the help of local police.
At one stage he is told to walk away.
“He did not deserve death as he did not have any intention to kill the boy”, the lawyer, who did not give his name, said.
In Khulna, Judge Dilruba Sultana sentenced Md Omar Sharif and Mintu Khan to death after they were convicted of killing 12-year-old Rakib Hawlader.
