At least 35 others, injured in the mishap, are being treated at the state-run Tongi Hospital, DMCH and Adhunik Medical College Hospital at capital’s Uttara.
A fresh fire broke out at a portion of the building of Tampaco Foils Limited’s factory in Tongi BSCIC industrial area at 10:55am, our staff correspondent reports from the spot.
At least 20 people died in a factory fire after a boiler exploded in a four-story building in Bangladesh on Saturday.
Mikail Shipar, government secretary with the ministry of labour and employment, said the government was now probing safety at all factories in the Tongi industrial zone.
A spokesman of the factory was not immediately available for comment.
“At night the fire spread to other floors where huge amounts of chemicals and other flammable items were stored for use in packaging”, Bhoumik told Reuters from the site by phone.
Low-priced manufacturing is the mainstay in Bangladesh, one of the world’s top garment exporters with a $27-billion industry.
Factory safety is a major concern in Bangladesh, which has thousands of garment and packaging factories that supply products to global chains like Wal-Mart and H&M.
“We have nearly brought the fire under control”.
More than 1,100 people were killed and 2,500 injured after the collapse of the Rana Plaza building which housed five garment factories in 2013.
