Bangladesh security forces have killed militants and saved hostages in a deadly standoff.

One of the persons, whose photos police released as being the militants, has already been identified by his family as Saiful Islam Chowkider, a chef of the Holey Artisan Bakery and O’ Kitchen.

Police were also in touch with security agencies in Malaysia, where two of the attackers had attended a private university, but officials said they had not found any links with worldwide militant groups.

Gunmen stormed the restaurant in Dhaka’s diplomatic zone and killed 20 people, a lot of them foreigners from Italy, Japan, India and the United States, in an assault claimed by Islamic State. Most of the victims in the violence claimed by Islamic State were foreigners, from Italy, Japan, India and the United States.

The sixth man was a restaurant employee.

“They are members of the Jamaeytul Mujahdeen Bangladesh (JMB)”, Asaduzzaman Khan said.

Police official Saiful Islam said a case has been registered against five but six were killed.

The news agency said it saw Chowkider’s name was included among 21 hostages killed by attackers in the police filing.

The Italian government on Monday said more terror attacks in Bangladesh can not be ruled out and visitors need to show “maximum caution”, reports The Statesman.

H.T. Imam, a political adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also said security officials had seen online warnings about an impending attack on Friday and ordered major hotels and restaurants in the neighbourhood of the cafe shut.

“There is no evidence of foreign links”.

Police killed six of the attackers when they regained control of the restaurant, 12-hours after the attack began. Two other suspects are in hospital.

The five named in the case were Nibras Islam, Rohan Imtiaz, Meer Saameh Mubasheer, Khairul Islam and Shafiqul Islam.

Pictures of five young men clutching guns and grinning in front of a black flag were posted on an Islamic State website hours after the attack, along with the claim of responsibility, but despite that, authorities have ruled out a foreign link. “All our concerned units are working tirelessly”, said deputy police inspector general Shahidur Rahman.

It said, besides, the nine Italians, seven Japanese, an American and an Indian citizen and two Bangladeshi hostages were slaughtered by militants during Friday’s attack on a popular bakery in Dhaka’s diplomatic area. “This will repeat, repeat and repeat until you lose and we win and the sharia is established throughout the world”, said a man identified as Bangladeshi fighter Abu Issa al-Bengali, in the video monitored by SITE intelligence site.

A second official said the five former hostages still being held included a Canadian citizen of Bangladeshi origin and a Bangladesh-born British citizen.
