He didn’t make the traditional bank robber escape, though, according to the Kansas City Star. A bank security guard told investigators when approached him, Ripple said “H$3 e was the guy he was looking for”.
According to an Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit included in court documents, the robbery appears to have stemmed from an argument Ripple had at home with his wife. The guard took the money and held Ripple there until police arrived. Speaking to investigators at the station, he asserted that he had got into an argument with his wife, and that he “no longer wanted to be in that situation”.
An FBI agent wrote in affidavit that Ripple had been arguing with his wife earlier in the day and wrote the note in front of her.
Lawrence John Ripple, 70, is shown in this Wyandotte County Detention Center in Kansas City, Kansas, U.S. released on September 7, 2016.

The teller complied and gave him all the money but instead of leaving, police say that Ripple took a seat in the lobby.
