A single engine aircraft carrying a banner on the California coast in Carlsbad, just outside of San Diego, crashed Saturday after losing engine power, KNSD, San Diego, reported.

“Coming to you live from a plane crash at Carlsbad State Beach”, tweeted Ava O’Brien (@AvaCheree).

Corey Vaughn was on the beach when he realized something was wrong with the plane and started recording.

The crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. The video shows the small plane turning towards the coastline, touching down, and then flipping.

“Witnesses said only one 12-year-old boy sustained any injuries”. His condition is unknown.

“We’re really pleased the pilot was uninjured”, said Janice Baer, the boy’s mother.

“I’m shocked”, said Jim Oakley. “It’s destroyed now it will take years to put back together”.

The crash caused panic on the crowded beach, which was packed with picnicking families celebrating Independence Day. He must have lost all power; he was in total control. In a 1985 incident in Cape May, New Jersey, a ground worker became entangled in a banner as the pilot was taking off and fell to his death after the plane was in the air.

The plane’s owner said the aircraft is 15-years-old and hasn’t had prior problems.

The plane was towed to McClellan-Palomar Airport where the FAA will take over the investigation.
