Barack Obama honors National Basketball Association champion Warriors

He started the ceremony by saying, “I wish Riley Curry was here to share the podium with me”.

Kerr is the Warriors” head coach, and Obama made sure to note that whether Golden State breaks the “95-’96 Bulls’ record or not, Kerr is still a victor. “That is not the case”, Obama said.

The POTUS honored the 2015 champion Golden State Warriors at the White House on February 4, but sadly, the tiny media giant wasn’t able to attend.

That’s the unusual case Saturday night, because a relatively innocuous comment by MVP Stephen Curry has added some spice to the Golden State Warriors’ first matchup of the season against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Obama described some of Curry’s antics on the court as “clowning”, particularly during the night’s previous game against Washington when Curry scored 51 points in the win. And they play not just well but they play well together.

Said Obama: “I don’t play anymore, but I still know a little bit about basketball, and this really is one of the best that we’ve ever seen”.

The president also left the Warriors’ other sharpshooter Klay Thompson red-faced with a couple of zingers, although ended with praise at Curry’s expense.

Golden State could have its eye on a major free-agent pickup in the offseason, as revealed by coach Steve Kerr Thursday at the White House. He’ll be bringing his teammates along for the traditional White House visit that comes with winning a championship. “You can’t mess around with the basketball gods trying to chase a record if the game doesn’t call for it”.

“We’d like you to be the leader of Dub Nation.”

“It’s certainly a thing that I definitely can’t pass up, especially since we have the off day, and it’s a chance, one of the final times to kind of celebrate what was accomplished past year”, Lee told the Boston Globe. “Which, man, that doesn’t seem fair”, Obama said.

Obama acknowledged Warriors coach Steve Kerr, whose five National Basketball Association titles as a player included three from 1996 to 1998 as a guard alongside Michael Jordan for the Chicago Bulls, Obama’s team.
