September 11: Taking the blame for his side’s shocking 1-2 defeat at the hands of recently-promoted Deportivo Alaves, Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has pointed out that number of changes in the squad led to the present circumstances.

Barca boss Luis Enrique chose to leave Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta on the bench for this seemingly easy outing, but the move backfired as Alaves recorded a famous victory on Barca’s home turf.

Ibai Gomez’s 64th minute strike won the game for the Basques after Jeremy Mathieu had cancelled out Deyverson’s surprise opener.

Alaves, so resolute in earning a 1-1 draw away to Atletico Madrid in round one, made an equally obdurate start at the Nou Camp.

“It will be a hard game and we are only thinking about taking the three points”. A defeat that serves to make us learn and think.

The Portugal striker needed just six minutes to get on the scoresheet to help Real Madrid 5-2 win over Osasuna.

Griezmman, who was named the best player at this summer’s European Championship for leading France to the final, continues to edge his way into the conversation of the Spanish league’s most valuable player. We were imprecise and they scored two goals from three shots.

The Blaugrana continued to push forward in search of victor, with Luis Enrique introducing Lionel Messi on the hour mark.

“The truth is I started a bit warily, which is normal after a serious injury, but I feel good, without pain and getting back to full fitness”, Ronaldo said.

Alcacer may well go on to be a successful signing for Barca but with Messi and Suarez left out of the starting line-up, the player the Catalans allowed to leave who was already adapted to their style of play, Munir El Haddadi, may have been more useful.

Barcelona did create a couple openings in the closing stages of the first half, but the likes of Neymar and Ivan Rakitic failed to convert their chances.
