Barcelona, Bayern eye Champions League last-16

Douglas Costa struck after eight minutes, Robert Lewandowski doubled the lead after 16 minutes with Thomas Müller adding another four minutes later as dazed Olympiakos found no answer to the continuous attacks. Guardiola added “Our self-confidence is high, but we still want to get better”.

Of course, Olympiacos are right up there with them, having also won three of their group matches.

Bayern Munich blitzed Olympiakos with three goals in the first 20 minutes to seal qualification – and keep Arsenal in the hunt.

“The injury isn’t so bad, the game was only two days ago, he won’t train today and we’ll see if he can play”, Guardiola said.

Olympiakos can secure their spot in the knockout round if they avoid defeat against Arsenal in their final group game.

Finally, Borussia Monchengladbach extended their unbeaten run to seven games with their first win under the guidance of Andre Schubert since he was made full-time coach.

In Russian Federation, Zenit St Petersburg, who had already qualified, secured top spot in Group H with a fifth win in five as they beat Valencia 2-0.

The Germany striker became the youngest player to rack up 50 wins in the Champions League, moving to the head of a star-packed list of players to have graced the European stage.

The second half followed much the same pattern and, although Dinamo weaved some nice moves in midfield, they hardly created a chance to trouble Arsenal keeper Petr Cech. “We weren’t ideal in possession, but we were very good without the ball”. But even if this happens, Leverkusen would still need to either beat Barcelona in their last group-stage game next month – or rely on Borisov taking points from Roma – in order to advance. Though Lewandowski and Müller (five each) have contributed the lion’s share of Bayern’s goals in the competition so far, efforts from Costa (two), Mario Götze (two), Arjen Robben (one), Coman (one) and David Alaba (one) are evidence that there are goals throughout the Bavarian side this season.

The situation appears rather more straightforward for Chelsea, who cruised to a 4-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel with Gary Cahill, Willian, Oscar and Kurt Zouma on target.

Gary Cahill had put the visitors up in the 20th minute.

All-in-all it was a now classic Bayern performance at home as they top the group.

There were no such problems at Wolfsburg’s Volkswagen Arena as Bremen gifted the opener when defender Alejandro Galvez slid the ball into his own net on 11 minutes.

Hernandez did the rest, but it finished 2-1 at the break when Serbian midfielder Slobodan Medojevic headed home on the stroke of half-time.
