Both Real and Barca won their matches against Valencia and Espanyol respectively but Luis Enrique’s men are still in the driving seat with their one-point advantage.
Atletico Madrid’s La Liga title dream ended with a shock 2-1 loss at relegated Levante on Sunday.
Neymar then got his name on the score sheet after unselfish play by Suarez left the Brazilian striker with a tap-in.
Fernando Torres had given Atletico the ideal start with the opening goal inside two minutes.
Atletico came close to restoring their lead when Savic diverted a header from Jose Jimenez just wide early in the second half after a corner from the right.
And as the visitors pushed for the victor that would keep the pressure on Barcelona, Giuseppe Rossi netted after a swift breakaway to end all hopes Atleti had of notching a second La Liga crown in three years.
“We have been enjoying a great season and we have again been able to compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid”.
Real were fortunate that Benzema’s goal on the stroke of half-time that made it 2-0 was allowed to stand as he was clearly offside when he fired in a first attempt from Ronaldo’s cross.
Madrid were comfortable for much of the game at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Valencia indebted to goalkeeper Diego Alves for restricting Ronaldo and co to three goals.
Andre Gomes ensured a nervy ending, only for Rodrigo to be sent off late on and hinder Valencia’s chances of an equaliser.

With next week being the title-deciding weekend, leaders Barcelona travel to 16th-placed Granada; Real Madrid – a point behind – are away at Deportivo La Coruna and Atletico Madrid, now out of the running, have pride to play for against fifth-placed Celta Vigo.
