New York Mets manager Terry Collins refused baseball questions Sunday morning in his pregame press conference, saying he would only talk about Fernandez, whose infections spirit made him popular with fans and peers alike. Thus, it only made sense for the Dolphins to do their best to pay tribute to the hurler after he died early in a boating accident early on Sunday morning. At least two other people died, an emergency worker told the newspaper.

Fernandez first faced the Indians on August 2, 2013, when the Marlins topped the Tribe, 10-0, in Miami.

“Sadly, the brightest lights are often the ones that extinguish the fastest”, Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria said. My heart goes out to him and everyone involved down there. Reyes said two bodies were found underneath the vessel and another was found in the water on the southside of the jettys. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Miami Marlins organization and all of the people he touched in his life”.

With this tragic accident, baseball has lost one of its great young stars. Girardi was a player for the Cubs that day and had to announce to the crowd at Wrigley Field the game that afternoon was going to be canceled. In 2013, he was voted the National League rookie of the year, and placed third in Cy Young Award voting.

The speed at which the boat was traveling was believed to have played a role in the crash, but alcohol and drugs were not considered to be a factor, Veloz said.

For star power, this is probably the biggest in-career death of an Major League Baseball player since Yankees catcher Thurman Munson died in a plane crash in 1979.

“I’m so glad you came into my life”, Fernandez wrote in that post. Five days prior to his death, Fernandez put a photo on Instagram with the caption, “I’m ready for where this journey is gonna take us togetherr”. It’s worth noting that Fernandez’s pregnant girlfriend was not on board.

There were pregame tributes and moments of silence for Fernandez across the majors.

Fernandez’s 76th and final game was Tuesday, when he pitched eight shutout innings, struck out 12 and beat the Washington Nationals 1-0. “Everybody that’s ever played the game knows it has to go on”. “Now he’s gone, and it’s hard”.
