The Cleveland Indians and the Tampa Bay Rays conclude their series at Tropicana Field in Thursday action. “But now it kind of just looks like another loss instead of getting no-hit for a full game”. “I just missed that spot right there”.

The Indians are the first team since 1961 with five flawless innings in three starts thanks to Cody Anderson, Danny Salazar, and Carrasco.

Yan Gomes had three hits, including a solo homer in the eighth for the Indians, who limped into town after being shut out in both games of a doubleheader at Baltimore on Sunday. After giving up the walk to Butler, Evan Longoria grounds into a ideal double play to end the seventh inning and his no-no still intact.

“We’ll get out of this funk”, Cash said after the Rays lost for seventh time in nine games. The other two guys, you could argue their stuff is as good as Chris Archer’s – big fastballs, wipe-out breaking balls.

“They just battled”, Karns said.

NINTH INNING: Carrasco walked Asdrubal Cabrera to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning. “I do not know if I was nervous or something, but that was my reaction”, Carrasco said. Matt Moore will try to cool off the Indians as he makes his first major-league start in nearly 15 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Then he goes on to face Kiermaier and he strikes him out to get his 13th strikeout of the game. The only thing that Carrasco could do is applaud his teammate for the valiant effort.

Although there had been close calls in the decades since Len Barker twirled his flawless game in 1981, no Tribe pitcher had retired 26 batters without a hit since that night in 1981.

The Rays are 30-18 when they hit at least one home run. Riefenhauser in the eighth.

Nelson Cruz drove in the Mariners’ final two runs with a two-run homer to cap a four-run ninth inning. Swisher is taking batting practice and running in the outfield.

It’s been a terrific series for the Indians starting rotation and a nightmare for the Rays offense. The interesting part about this is that he also faced the Rays in his first career start on June 21, and tossed seven and two-thirds scoreless innings. Dipoto confirmed his resignation to the Los Angeles Times. Bill Stoneman, who stepped down as Angels GM after the 2007 season but has been retained as a senior adviser ever since, will be named interim GM, according to a person familiar with the situation but not authorized to speak publicly.
