After Washington’s 34-20 loss at the New York Jets, Gruden talked about quarterback Kirk Cousins’ performance against the Jets.
New York was able to shake-off three first half turnovers, which led to three Redskins’ scoring drives at a 13-10 lead Washington lead at the half.
But New York opened the second half with 24 straight points.
“He’s run this division for a while so I am kind of happy we get next”, Richardson said when asked about facing the Patriots. In July, as national media outlets were predicting another losing campaign in Washington, he raved about their roster, even saying he could see them “in the playoff picture come December.”
“Kirk gives us the best chance to win, still”, Gruden told reporters.
“Second half, we laid an egg”, Gruden said. All four of Washington’s losses this year have featured two interceptions from Gruden’s quarterback of choice.
“I felt like my options to the right were covered and I thought to run it”, Cousins said.
“I just have to keep going and learn from the mistakes”.
Still, Cousins wants to make something clear: All interceptions are not created equal.
“You hate to pin this game on Kirk”, Gruden said. How he caught it I don’t know and then how he turned it into a touchdown I really don’t know.
The Redskins downgraded Jackson to out Saturday; he hasn’t played since the season opener because of a left hamstring injury. Rookie running back Matt Jones (toe) was also limited this week and tight end Jordan Reed was held out due to a concussion. Enter Ryan Fitzpatrick, a quarterback who gets lots in the National Football League shuffle but has helped guide the Jets offense through this hard stretch with mostly favorable results.
