Bastian Schweinsteiger misses Germany training with knee injury

In the short term, the injury rules Schweinsteiger out of friendlies against England and Italy during the worldwide break.

Schweinsteiger travelled to Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt in Munich to undergo scans, the results of which will be revealed today.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has suffered another injury setback after sustaining a partial tear to a medial ligament in his right knee.

Schweinsteiger was actually being challenged by another player when he suffered the injury, German football federation media director Ralf Koettker later said. Low admitted that the outlook “does not look positive” for the former Bayern Munich midfielder.

“Treatment will be carried out by the medical team at his club Manchester United, in coordination with the Germany national team’s doctors”.

Despite the absences-only 14 of 26 call-ups trained on the pitch in the first session at Hertha Berlin’s stadium-Low was looking forward to the games to kick-start their European Championship preparations.

“It happened at the end of the training session and he’s now in Munich being examined”.

The 31-year-old only returned to action for United this month following another knee injury in January and has not yet made any real impact with the Red Devils.

United are looking to break into the top four once again, finishing a very average season on a high.

City now still hold that coveted fourth spot on 51 points, but with both West Ham and Manchester United on 50 it’s unquestionably up for grabs.
