Schweinsteiger has already played under Van Gaal during the Dutchman’s stint at Bayern Munich and his relationship with the Manchester United manager is said to be one of the key reasons why the German global wants to link up with the English giants.
It has established itself over the last few weeks, now a change is imminent: Bastian Schweinsteiger leaving Bayern Munich apparently after 17 years and moves to Manchester United.
After 13 years in the first team at Bayern, Schweinsteiger was interested in a new challenge and he had made it clear to the German champions that the Premier League was his desired destination.
Rummenigge plans to meet with Schweinsteiger soon when his future could be determined, but it is still uncertain where he will be playing his football.
“I regret that because Bastian was an extremely deserving player for us”. But on Thursday, chief executive Karl-Heinze Rummenigge said that after having a telephone conversation with him the midfielder had admitted he found some of the offers from England tempting.
The 111-time Germany worldwide, who joins Memphis Depay in arriving at Old Trafford ahead of the new season, has won eight Bundesliga titles and a UEFA Champions League, while he was also a 2014 World Cup victor.
One player that United boss Louis van Gaal did confirm the club was pursuing was Torino and Italy full-back Matteo Darmian.
As a result, it remains to be seen how much truth is behind the report, although Bild seem confident that the World Cup victor is headed for the exit door at the Allianz.
