Batavia Police warn of IRS scam that appears to come from city

The scammers say they are collecting for the IRS and demand funds be transferred to an account within an hour to avoid arrest and additional charges.

The caller has told residents they are from the sheriff’s office and inform them that they did not report for jury duty, according to a post from the Grand Blanc Police Department’s Facebook page.

If 911 shows upon on your phone’s caller ID, chances are the call is not from a legitimate police agency.

The City of Batavia is not collecting funds for the IRS.

Call to demand immediate payment over the phone, nor will they call about taxes owed without sending a letter in the mail first.

The Internal Revenue Service is seeing a big increase this summer in automated phone calls from con artists pretending to work for the IRS calling innocent taxpayers demanding overdue taxes.

The IRS reminds taxpayers that settling tax bills by putting money in a gift card is a clear indication of a scam.

Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
