Fight as she did; however, over the past two plus years, she still lost her battle with metastasized breast cancer that had gone to her liver.

The family will hold a private service but hasn’t set a date.

Among the Batgirl fans who paid tribute to Craig today was former “Batgirl” writer Gail Simone, who in addition to sharing some thoughts on Craig encouraged her followers to do something brave in honor of Batgirl and share it by using the hashtag “BeBatGirl”. That led to roles in two ELVIS PRESLEY films (KISSIN’ COUSINS and IT HAPPENED AT THE WORLD’S FAIR) and, from there, steady TV work followed.

Craig began her career as the youngest ballet dancer of The Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, with which she toured for three years.

The role that would define her career came in 1967. The actress joined Batman in its third and final season.

Craig then moved onto television roles, making guest star appearances in several series, including “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis” and “77 Sunset Strip” before landing the Batgirl role.

In 1969, she played Marta, a green-skinned Orion slave girl who attempted to kill Captain Kirk in television’s “Star Trek” series. Away from the screen, her jobs included work as a real estate broker.

“I used to think the reason they hired me was because they knew I could ride my own motorcycle…”

More recently, Craig voiced Grandma in Nickelodeon’s 2009 cartoon series Olivia. She had been able to do this with joy and much laughter and she wouldn’t have changed a thing.

Craig will be dearly missed, and is survived by her husband, Kenneth Aldrich, as well as by her sister, Meridel Carson, and nephews Christopher and Todd Carson.
