LSU has fired Les Miles as football coach and has named Ed Orgeron the interim coach, sources told ESPN’s Mark Schlabach. So ends the 12-year reign of one of the quirkiest and most popular coaches in SEC history – one who was as famous for oddball behavior like eating grass as he was for winning games at an impressive clip.

Miles was hired by LSU in 2005 after serving as Oklahoma State’s head coach the previous four seasons. Earlier Sunday, the paper reported that the Tigers coaching staff, including Miles, would be subject to “an extensive evaluation” over the next 24 hours.

After a last-second loss to the Auburn Tigers on Saturday, the LSU Tigers have reportedly fired head coach Les Miles. ESPN confirmed the news after multiple reports surfaced.

According to the Advocate, Miles was sacked after a Sunday meeting that included school president F. King Alexander, athletic director Joe Alleva, and “other university leaders”.

This decision comes on the heels of Miles almost losing his job during the midst of a three-game losing streak late in the 2015 season.

On the whole, Miles’ time in Baton Rouge was very successful with a 114-34 overall record.
