A witness told local media the gunman carried what appeared to be an AR-15 assault-style rifle. That was corroborated with social media posts.
Mr Sterling’s nephew Terrance Carter condemned the killing of the three Baton Rouge officers and said the family just wanted peace.
“His history of rambling postings indicated that the attack was motivated at least in part by killings by police of black Americans in recent years and the resulting unrest”, says The Guardian.
The city has become a flashpoint for protests after police shot and killed Alton Sterling, a black man, outside a convenience store there on July 5.
“I swear to God I love this city but I wonder if this city loves me”, Montrell Jackson wrote shortly before his death.
In the message, Mr Jackson said he was physically and emotionally exhausted and complained that while in uniform, he received nasty looks.
“It was someone who was calling in”, he said, adding that there “was no indication” that the initial call was “trying to lure someone here”.
One of the officers killed by Long – Montrell Jackson – was black. “# MY Religion is Justice”.
In the July 10 video, recorded, he said, in Dallas, he says, “Zero have been successful just over simple protesting”.
“You gotta fight back”, he says on the video. In Kansas City, police, some with guns drawn, converged on a house listed as Long’s.
Garafola’s house in the Baton Rouge suburb of Denham Springs lies at the end of a suburban cul-de-sac and there were several cars parked in front.
His death comes as tensions continue to rise in the U.S. between law enforcement officials and members of the community.
Jackson’s family was mourning the officer Sunday afternoon. “An attack on one of us, is an attack on all of us”. “Attacks on police are an attack against all of us… the rule of law that makes society possible”.
After the Dallas shooting, a July 8 post read: “The Shooter was NOT WHITE, He was one of us!”
On the CBS Evening News, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said more needs to be done to build trust between minority communities and the police.
Baton Rouge police officer Randy Bonaventure takes a bouquet of flowers at the Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, where the police officers were brought on Sunday. L.J. McKneely said.
Edmonson says: “His movements, his direction, his attention was on police officers”.
The attack began at a petrol station on Airline Highway.
Long, who was black, was affiliated with the anti-government New Freedom Group, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person briefed on the investigation. “Remote Brain experimentation, Remote Neural Monitoring of an entire Humans Body”.
Long said he was a member of the Washitaw Nation, a group of African Americans claiming to be a Native American nation in the United States. One suspect is dead and law enforcement officials believe two others are still at large, the spokeswoman said.
A website named “Convos With Cosmo”, featuring self-help, health and relationship advice, is owned by a Gavin Long at a Kansas City address, according to online records. I still love you all because hate takes too much energy but I definitely won’t be looking at you the same.
