BSP supporters are evidently not satisfied with the BJP suspending their UP vice president Dayashankar Singh for his controversial statements on Mayawati.

The protest, which was majorly seen at main Hazratganj crossings, has come to an end. Party workers also broke police barricades and shouted slogans against the BJP while burning Singh’s effigies. Police had filed an FIR against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Scheduled Cast and Scheduled Tribe Act after the BSP lodged a complaint.

“Mayawati seems hell-bent upon reducing the matter to a mere caste issue and allowing the gratuitous insults that are being heaped upon the wife and the daughter of the now expelled BJP leader”, she added.

Mayawati retorted to the charges in New Delhi: “Dayashankar Singh’s family is claiming that they have been hurt by BSP cadres’ slogans”.

Responding to the comments, she called it an attack on women and dalits.

“While BSP leader Satish Chandra Mishra said that nothing like this happened, but the entire country has witnessed and listened the foul language used by BSP workers during protest yesterday”.

“If Singh is not arrested within 36 hours, our workers will resume demonstration and dharnas at all divisional headquarter barring Lucknow on July 25 after that we will decide our next strategy”, he said.

The state is getting ready for key regional elections early next year and Ms Mayawati is leading her Bahujan Samaj Party’s campaign there.

The BJP on Wednesday suspended Uttar Pradesh unit vice-president Daya Shankar Singh for six years following his alleged derogatory comments regarding Mayawati.

Police, on Thursday detained his brother, Dharmendra Singh and question him about Dayashankar’s whereabouts. Singh’s wife Swati Singh said, “what my husband said may have been wrong and he apologised”.
