Earlier on Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that the decision of allowing private vehicles with even-odd registration numbers on alternate days was a contingency step and would be discontinued if it caused inconvenience to the public.

Several Chinese cities have slapped limits on vehicle numbers because of congestion and pollution, but it is the first time the Indian capital has implemented such a measure.
Environmental groups have welcomed the Delhi government’s plan for private vehicles but have said it will be tough to implement.
Talking about initiatives taken by his government yesterday to tackle pollution, Kejriwal said vacuum cleaning on all PWD roads will begin from April 1 and grass will be planted on side kerbs and central verges of all the arterial roads to remove dust.
Kejriwal also spoke about the series of measures that his government plans to take to strengthen public transport in Delhi – redesigning roads, adding 10,000 buses to the existing fleet and constructing dedicated elevated roads for buses. Many things are yet to be worked out…We will experiment with it for some time…. may be for 15 days.
Jain also said that the government also will do something about rampant use of generators by companies in the national capital which also contribute to pollution. But day-to-day interference completely saps you. “We would welcome him if he comes to the party”, he said. He also said Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung was creating hurdles in the functioning of his Government.
“Clearly there has been a huge increase”, said Anumita Roychowdhury, the center’s executive director for research and advocacy and head of its air pollution and clean transportation program. “The Lt. Governor has been like a headmaster…”, Kejrwal said, lamenting: “You need the space to govern”.

Jairam Ramesh described the formula as “good step” and hailed Kejriwal-led Delhi government’s decision to implement “odd-even” restrictions for plying of private vehicles. He said that he spoke very frankly that if PM’s salary is less then MLA’s then it must be increased.
