“I’ve been watching Coco for a long time, and he’s always smiling and talking to guys on the field”, a beaming Lindor said. “Going deep in games, I feel like that’s what I should be able to do consistently”. With every pitch – fastball, slider, curveball, changeup – everything.
While Carrasco racked up strikeouts, Marlins starting pitcher Andrew Cashner (0-4, 5.00 ERA) struggled to find the strike zone.
Take away the first inning, and Bauer was utterly dominant on this night.
Abraham Almonte tacked on a couple more in the fifth, ripping a two-run double off the wall in right-center field that scored Jose Ramirez, who had doubled, and Lonnie Chisenhall, who had walked.
The Marlins committed three errors that led to two unearned runs. It was his major-league leading 22nd three-hit game of the season and his first career four-hit game.
“I was disappointed in myself, ” he said. “I just told myself, “Get on base one time, and help the team”, Crisp said.
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jose Fernandez delivers to a Cleveland Indians batter during the first inning of a baseball game in Cleveland, Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016.
Miami Marlins’ J.T. Realmuto, is congratulated by Martin Prado after hitting a two-run home run …
Fernandez recorded his second straight scoreless outing on Monday after scattering three hits over six innings in a hard-luck no-decision versus the New York Mets. He was scratched from his previous turn because of a blister on his finger. The right-hander walked three in the inning, including Mike Napoli with the bases loaded. Jason Kipnis was ruled to have checked his swing on a 3-2 pitch, a call Mattingly disagreed with from the dugout. Lindor’s single, to right, scored Crisp. Cashner threw 35 pitches in the inning.
The upper third (Crisp, Kipnis, Lindor) of Terry Francona’s lineup batted a combined 9-13 against Fernandez and the Marlins bullpen.
Carrasco started for Cleveland and dominated Miami from the start.
The Marlins entered Saturday only three games out of the second wild card spot, which now belongs to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Marlins had eight hits and two of them came from Destin Hood in his big league debut. Emotions remained high as first base coach Perry Hill was ejected in the ninth.
Offense hasn’t been an issue of late for Cleveland, which has scored 20 runs during its winning streak and carries a 43-23 mark at home while building a 4 1/2-game lead over second-place Detroit in the American League Central.
“It’s a different monster playing in the playoffs, but it’s the most exciting times of where you want to be, ” he said.
Marlins: OF Marcell Ozuna (sore left wrist) missed his third straight game.
Indians: C Yan Gomes (separated right shoulder) began a rehab assignment at Double-A Akron.
The Miami Marlins get one of their infielders back as the club has reinstated second baseman Derek Dietrich from the 15-day disabled list.

Uncharacteristically, Fernandez didn’t record his first strikeout until the 10th batter he faced when he got Crisp in the second. He started the night with a 2.79 ERA and ended at 3.03.
