The tartan clad Bay City Rollers became one of the most successful pop groups of all time after they burst upon the scene in the early 1970s, selling an estimated 70 million records.

Lead singer Les McKeown, 57, chanted “Shang-A-Lang” triumphantly as he announced the reunion with bassist Alan Longmuir, 67, and keyboard player Stuart “Woody” Wood, 58.

At a press conference in Glasgow with family & fans in attendance, frontman McKeown stated: “I’m feeling great, I’m feeling fabulous”. “It’s been hard work on everyone’s part”.

They will possibly be joined by Eric Faulkner as well, another member of the original five.

McKeown and Stuart had a lengendary on stage fight, something they’ll reference in the new show.

They originally called it quits when McKeown left in 1978.

“But it’s not something you can’t get over, especially when there’s huge amounts of money involved!”

He said: “We’ve actually been talking about adding in the fight as part of our show because no one would be expecting it”.

“It’s been a long process and I’m just glad that we’re all sitting here and we’ll just have to see where it goes, but we’re mega excited with the gig coming up at the Barrowlands”.

“The curse has been lifted, we’re writing the last chapter”.

He added: “When we look at the reality, we say to ourselves jokingly that we’re doing it for the money but deep down we’re doing it for the fans, the glory of Scotland and the glory of the tartan”.

The three musicians will kick off their reunion with “a very special Christmas present” to all fans who have kept faith with the band over the years – a performance at the Glasgow Barrowland Ballroom on December 20.

Plans for a larger tour are expected to be announced at a later date.
