The news regarding Muller will come as a blow to Manchester United, who were understood to be interested in the Germany striker. Allegedly, Carlo Ancelotti is Guardiola’s reported replacement in 2016.

Manchester City are known to be admirers of Guardiola and are in pole position to land the 44-year-old, but Manchester United and Chelsea could also be interested in acquiring his services.

A report by the Daily Mail UK suggests Guardiola is skeptical his relationship with the squad and club managers will improve despite his side’s dominance in the League for the past two seasons.

Guardiola tipped to leave and take up the reins at the Etihad.

The Spaniard remains close with City chief executive Ferran Soriano and sporting director Txiki Begiristain, from their time working together at Barcelona.

News that Ancelotti is set to join Bayern may come as a blow to some Premier League clubs, with Manchester United and Chelsea heavily linked with a move for the Italian in recent weeks. Only after the game will they hold talks with Guardiola.

He said: “If the cards fall his way, his wish is to sample life at Manchester United for a variety of reasons”. There have been rumors about him moving to England to prove himself throughout Europe, and there are admirers within the Premier League. Management also have long targeted better Champions League results, to cap the club’s rise into Europe’s elite.

On Tuesday Guardiola, when asked about his future, said: “Tonight, I have no answer. That hasn’t changed. You’ll know the day after tomorrow (Sunday)”, Guardiola told a press conference on the eve of his club’s closing Bundesliga outing of 2015. “Next week there will be clarity”.

Bayern, who have been knocked out of the Champions League in the semi-finals for the last two seasons under their Spanish manager, will face Juventus in the last 16 of this year’s competition.
