The video of Zamora beating his dog surfaced almost two weeks ago, and resulted in Class C misdemeanor charges for Zamora as well as the community service hours listed above.

If Baylor wanted to send a message that animal abuse isn’t okay, flip it around and have Zamora sit out the first three Big 12 games of the season: Oklahoma State (September 24th), at Iowa State (October 1st), Kansas (October 15th). “We are deeply saddened by it and worked together with the University to hold Ishmael accountable for his actions”. “This student has been punished by the legal system and understands he faces further disciplinary action from the athletics department and as a result of the investigation and review of the university’s student disciplinary process”.

The dog was not injured and Zamora’s mother took the pet back to Houston after the incident, Swanton said.

“Our football program does not condone this behavior by anyone”, Baylor interim Head Coach Jim Grobe said. Eventually, I hope that everyone can see who I really am and that I am not a awful person. “I’ve conveyed to him my expectation that his actions and his service will illustrate his commitment to change”.

Online petitions calling for Zamora’s removal from the team had generated more than 200,000 signatures as of Monday afternoon.

Ishmael Zamora, the Baylor receiver caught on film whipping and stomping his Rottweiler, has been suspended three games by the university for animal abuse. Baylor added that he can continue to practice even though he is not playing. “This incident does not and will not define me, and I know that I am the one who will have to prove that to others in the days ahead”.

Grobe is waiting on a decision on discipline from the university before he makes an announcement on whether Zamora will play in Friday’s season opener against Northwestern State.
