Baylor will face hard challenge overcoming Russell’s neck injury
After Bryce Petty graduated and became a part of the New York Jets, a few Baylor Bears’ fans were skeptic on whether quarterback Seth Russell would be able to step in and be effective.

Baylor officials said again Sunday that the timetable for Russells return was still unknown until after seeing the specialist.
As you can see, Stidham is about as good as it gets when it comes to college football recruits, and playing as a true freshman in this offense, he’s been pretty great.
Coleman caught a 12-yarder from Jarrett Stidham in the closing minutes, his FBS-best 18th TD catch this season and the 31st of his career to break Kendall Wright’s school record.
“We’ll see”, Baylor head coach Art Briles said.
After coming into the day passing for an average of 371 yards per game, Iowa State held the Bears to just 209 yards. His 133.83 yards per game is the eighth highest mark in the nation as Baylor has much more balance than in year’s past. Quarterback Sam B. Richardson ran for 99 yards on 14 carries in a 49-28 home loss to Baylor last season but has had the luxury of spending more time in the pocket this season with the emergence of Warren.
Baylor quarterbacks threw three touchdown passes, but just one during its 10-point second half.
Briles later told ESPN’s Brett McMurphy that Russell “would probably be out awhile”.
With their NCAA-leading offense hitting a second-half lull, the No. 2-ranked Bears leaned heavily on a ball-hawking defense in plodding past Iowa State, 45-27, on a soggy homecoming Saturday at McLane Stadium. Third-year sophomore Chris Johnson, who converted from quarterback to wide receiver, will likely be shifted back to QB.
“It’s hard to stay at a level that we’ve been at, energy-wise, emotionally and then production-wise, ” Briles said. While he only threw for 197 yards and two touchdowns against Iowa State, he’s still registered 2,104 yards and 29 touchdowns on the season, with only six interceptions.

“I think this was one of our less clean games across the board”, left tackle Spencer Drango said.
