BBC’s upcoming series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency isn’t like anything else on TV.

“Dirk Gently is a comedic thriller that follows the freakish adventures of eccentric “holistic” detective Dirk Gently and his reluctant assistant Todd, as they wend their way through one big, seemingly insane mystery a season, crossing unlikely paths with a bevy of wild and sometimes unsafe characters, each episode landing them a few random steps closer to uncovering the truth”. A passionate Landis added, “You can’t do Douglas Adams by doing Douglas Adams”.
He wasn’t exaggerating, because while speaking with him about the show at Comic-Con, his passion for Douglas Adams’ unorthodox detective had him physically coming up out of his seat each time he talked about bringing the story to air.
“It’s a combination of Supernatural, Sherlock, and Doctor Who”, showrunner Robert Cooper told EW at San Diego Comic-Con “We’re like, Super-Sher-Who”.
