One of the most useful features of Apple’s new Apple TV is its Siri-enabled universal search. The new Apple TV is a very different beast, however, running dedicated software called TVOS. According to reports, Siri has started differentiating between iPhone owners who have subscribed to Apple Music and those who were yet to do so by giving different answers to their questions.

“We want to provide the same innovation in the living room that we delivered in our iOS devices”, said the Apple boss just days after eager fans were allowed to pre order the service. They’ll have a Storehouse app for Apple TV when it launches this week (sales began Monday, with expected delivery and Apple in-store availability starting Friday).

Walt Mossberg notes that Siri doesn’t work in the App Store, either. Anyone can download this iOS app and take pictures that will be curated into a single Storehouse album – app users can select which photos they want to include and can record videos to be featured right on the Apple TV.
Stelter continued along the same line of questioning, asking if all the authentication and logging in required by cable networks is a problem with the TV experience. “To be sure, you’re getting a much more polished experience – the voice-recognition stuff, in particular, blows away what Roku and Amazon have come up with so far”.

Because the Apple TV is considered a competitor, Amazon does not only exclude the new gadget from its e-commerce site, it also refused to make an Apple TV app. The idea was to connect big-screen TV sets to the wealth of programming available on the Internet. Unfortunately, that kind of data-sharing is extremely unlikely to happen, so Apple TV is already settling for the next-best option – even though settling doesn’t sound like a promising way to build the TV of the future. With TVMLKit being a completely new framework-consisting of TVML, TVJS and TVML-let’s start-off first with that. The user interface (and implicitly, the underlying hardware) was equally well-liked.
