“There were technical problems with a Sukhoi military plane while it was flying above a residential area in eastern Baghdad”, Brig. During its trip back to base, the bomb fell from the plane, hitting three houses.
The Sukhoi jet was taking part in an air strike against Islamic State (IS) militants, Iraqi television reported.
The Iraqi authorities are still waiting for the delivery 36 F-16 warplanes, which Washington promised to sell to Baghdad in 2012.
One of the pilots, Brigadier Rasid Mohammed Sadiq, was killed in a crash during an aerial refuelling exercise at the end of June.
The third bomb explosion struck a checkpoint, manned by pro-government forces, in the same town.
Police say a man fell to his death from a sixth-floor Manhattan balcony after apparently sitting on the edge and losing his balance.
Also Monday, separate attacks in and around Baghdad killed at least seven people.
Islamic State controls Iraq’s second-largest city, Mosul, and most the of the western Anbar province after a large-scale offensive last summer. To the north, they’re battling for full management of the city of Baiji and its close by refinery.
