BBC’s ‘Great British Bake Off’ Ratings Set Season High

Thursday night brought a glut of viewers to BBC One, as the hugely successful sixth series of The Great British Bake Off (8pm) kicked off the beginning of the end with a deluge of tortuous chocolate-based tasks.

The 19-year-old student became the ninth contestant to be eliminated from the baking competition in last night’s (30.09.15) episode, meaning she narrowly missed out on next week’s final.

While she received the honour of a handshake from baking maestro Paul Hollywood for her peanut dusted chocolate tart, it wasn’t long before she was reduced to tears in the soufflé technical challenge which was a recipe for disaster, literally.

The Signature proved to be Flora’s first downfall of the weekend as her Passion Fruit and Chocolate tart didn’t do enough to wow, despite an envious Tamal pointing out the “six billion different elements” the young baker had incorporated.

The university student admitted there “were moments [on the show] when I did feel my age and that I was lacking a certain experience”.

This year’s final will be competed by Nadiya Jamir Hussain, Tamal Ray and Ian Cumming.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Bake Off fans are convinced Nadiya’s going to win, she’s impressed throughout the series and has landed her Star Baker titles at just the right time”.

“What a fantastic 9 weeks!”

While her Bangladeshi background didn’t usually feature deserts, that hasn’t stopped Nadiya whipping up show-stopping treats, with flavours occasionally inspired by her culture. Despite her chocolate meltdown, she managed to turn the tables, winning Star Baker for the third time with her spectacular chocolate peacock showstopper. “She and my grandmother have been a great inspiration”. “I just didn’t want to come last”, she sobbed. “I really hope she gets to the final but I’m not sure her nerves can take it”. “Now people know who I am, I can see how tolerant and accepting British society is”. I think I’d have gone for a fairly straightforward bake and tried to make it look and taste ideal.

But she appreciated the positive feedback: “Mary said quite a few of my bakes were attractive which is a really nice thing, and Paul said my combination of flours in bread week were bang on”.

But it all went horribly wrong for Flora, whose over-embellished tart with it’s poorly made macarons and her crumbly carousel, fell foul of the judges.
