Officer Amy Therkelsen is a seven-year veteran at the Plymouth Police Department, the Department of Public Safety stated in a press release.

Officers were dispatched on a report of a disturbance at the Arby’s on Hwy. He didn’t follow Therkelsen’s commands and she tried to use her stun gun, but it wasn’t effective.

Plymouth Police Chief Michael S. Goldstein referred questions to the DPS’ Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA). When Therkelson’s Taser had no effect, she tried to subdue the person physically and there was a struggle for the officer’s weapon.

Police say an officer fatally shot a man inside an Arby’s restaurant in Plymouth after an altercation.

No other weapons were found. Another officer, Christopher Hendrickson, witnessed the shooting.

The man has been taken to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The name of the man wasn’t immediately released.

Both officers are on administrative leave, which is standard in officer-involved shootings.

Ryan Garry, Therkelsen’s lawyer, said Friday evening that the investigation is ongoing, but “my client acted absolutely appropriately given her training in this life-and-death situation”. He and others witnessed the shooting, the release said.
