Experts say the Memorial Day traffic is just the beginning of a summer of traffic jams at the nation’s beaches and mountain parks. And with gasoline costs falling to an 11-year low, US consumers may well breach the all-time high of 9.7 million barrels a day burned in 2007, he said.

The average price for regular self-serve gasoline in Orangeburg is $2.05 a gallon, according to Monday’s survey of 21 gasoline stations in the Orangeburg area. Even though gas prices have been climbing this month, AAA says Idaho drivers will still get a good deal at the pump. Air travel is expected to be up 1.6 percent from the same time past year which could mean more TSA line woes. In Connecticut, the average price is $2.44, down about 42 cents from a year ago, according to AAA.

The Marion County town of Tampa – population 112 – boasted the cheapest gas prices in the state, at $1.94 a gallon, Hanni said. The U.S. Energy Information Administration expects gas prices to sink back toward $2 a gallon by year-end.

The West Coast price is the highest at $2.66 per gallon, even though it is 83 cents/gal lower than at the same time past year, as the supply disruption that began in 2015 is expected to end once ExxonMobil’s Torrance refinery in California resumes full operation. Troopers will be out in force, but they say you can avoid seeing them up close and personal by remembering some basic rules of the road.

With gas prices the lowest in more than a decade, the agency expects 700,000 more travelers than previous year. Daily auto rental rates will average $62, three percent less than past year.

“It will be great that the gas prices will hopefully accommodate that”, Chambers said.
