Bears anticipating ‘lengthy absence’ for Jay Cutler (thumb)
A miserable night for Chicago, who fell to 0-2, was compounded by an injury to quarterback Jay Cutler, who left the game nursing his hand after throwing an interception to Nigel Bradham who returned 28 yards back to Chicago’s two-yard line.

Cutler is scheduled to undergo more tests on Tuesday to determine the severity.
“We just got to do better”.
“I’m listening in my helmet [when I’m not in there], so I’m getting a feel and a rhythm of the game that he’s trying to call and obviously having gone through it mentally during the week, I have a pretty good feel for what his goal is for each play and that kind of thing”, Hoyer said.
While stopping short of denying that Cutler was hurt in Houston, Fox stressed that the quarterback “practiced every play” last week. “It didn’t appear to (hinder him)”. “But to eliminate it down the road, I’m not a doctor, so I can’t tell you that. I just listen to our medical people”.
Jay Cutler has a sprained right thumb that doesn’t need surgery right now, but John Fox wouldn’t rule it out entirely when the Bears’ head coach met the media Tuesday at Halas Hall.
“Yeah, not there yet, because really these are the first reps that I’ve taken with Alshon, whether it’s one-on-ones, anything, really, ” Hoyer said. The Bears will not put him on injured reserve to free up a roster spot in his absence.
The Eagles traded a boatload of draft picks to the Cleveland Browns for the right to draft Wentz, but the Bears do not have to go through all those hoops – they can stay the course and end up in position to land the transcendent quarterback they’ve lacked without moving assets.
Fox said, though, that the injury was not a chronic issue past year, his first with the Bears. “They know”, Pederson said. “I didn’t see it … but our guys have discussions all the time”. We’re guessing he’d like that criticism back now. Nose tackle Eddie Goldman was taken from the field on a cart with an ankle injury early in the fourth quarter after he was at the bottom of the pile on a running play. He was carted off the field as a precaution Monday night, and the Bears were optimistic after x-rays showed no fracture.
And finally Bryce Callahan and Adrian Amos have entered the NFL’s Concussion Protocol.
Cutler’s injury, however, remains the most noteworthy. But he admitted after Monday’s loss that he was concerned, referencing the 2011 season when he fractured his right thumb against the San Diego Chargers in Week 11 and ultimately needed surgery.
The Bears will be without starting quarterback Jay Cutler for potentially three weeks, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Next week they face the Steelers, featuring a defense that is a far cry from the dominate days of old but still more formidable than the sieves the Eagles have faced the first two weeks of the season.
Little was expected of Trevathan when he entered the National Football League as a sixth-round pick out of Kentucky in 2012, but he quickly became a revelation for a Broncos team that was on the rise.
That Cutler was injured Monday night, rather than a typical Sunday afternoon, doesn’t help his chances of playing against the Cowboys. Cutler said after the game that the thumb injury contributed to the interception. A 9-7 season does them no good.

Fox said Trevathan’s injury isn’t season-ending but that he will be sidelined indefinitely. “We’ll evaluate it tomorrow”.
