Bears QB Cutler has thumb sprain

Ahead of his trip to Philadelphia to take on Wentz and the Eagles, the coach praised the rookie quarterback.

“They’re playing well together as a team”, coach Doug Pederson said. “He was a teammate and a great friend of mine for a long time and still is, so I am a little biased, but I have to admit, the play-calling and design – and (Jon) Gruden touched on that last night – I thought was really good and it also fit what Carson does well”.

The night belonged to Wentz, who has shown remarkable poise for a rookie. He’s completed better than 60 percent of his passes for 468 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 94.1 quarterback rating.

“I came out pretty much same routine”, Wentz said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. “We’ve got a bunch of good coaches, and we’ve 14 games left”.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz (11) runs the ball against the Chicago Bears defense during the first half of an NFL football game, Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, in Chicago. Cutler played two more series and exited the game after the Eagles’ Nigel Bradham stepped in front of a badly underthrown pass intended for Alshon Jeffery, who was about 10 yards up the field.

Darren Sproles led the Eagles with 40 yards rushing on 12 carries.

In 44 career games, Hoyer has completed 58.3 percent of his passes for 7,241 yards (7.2 yards per attempt), 38 touchdowns and 26 interceptions.

Fans at Soldier Field were pumped up and excited following the National Anthem by the legendary Jim Cornelison, but that energy was quickly deflated during the first Chicago Bears offensive possession.

Against the Eagles, Cutler made some big plays before the thumb injury forced him out of the game, but the bottom line is he led the Bears to just seven points in almost three quarters. After injuring his thumb and later aggravating it while getting sacked, Cutler took himself out of the game.

The Bears lost the game and they lost their quarterback. The Bears would consider themselves lucky to make it to 6-10 after what I saw last night from them. The injury was aggravated as he tried to plant his right hand and break his fall on a strip-sack by Philadelphia’s Destiny Vaeao in the third quarter.

In fact, Favre said it was Wentz – not Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler – that looked like the seasoned veteran. Everyone’s got a lot invested into this, and he does as well. He does as well. No one likes to lose in that fashion. He’s upset, I’m upset. Everyone is upset in that locker room right now.

ESPN’s Jon Gruden was impressed after Wentz and the Eagles beat the Bears, saying, “He came in here with a no-huddle offense, no backset, went right down the field for a field goal”.
